AI grades open-response writing in seconds. You decide whether it counts, how strict it grades, and how much it weighs.
Four modes, picked per assignment
Every activity with an open-response question can be AI graded. Premium teacher assignments default to AI grading included in the final score at 30% weight, but you can switch the mode per assignment: Include rolls the AI score into the final grade. Separate shows the AI score on the PDF only and does not pass it back to the LMS. Feedback only writes AI feedback for the student without scoring. None skips AI grading entirely. Multiple choice is auto-graded in every mode.
Scoped to the skill, not generic
The AI grader is given the passage, the standard the question is built around, and the rigor level you choose. It is not asking a generic chatbot whether the writing is good. It is scoring against the same criteria the activity targets, with feedback written for the student in the context of that passage.
Weight is yours to set
When AI grading is included in the score (Include mode), you decide how much it contributes to the final grade. Default is 30%. Want it heavier? Set it to 50% or higher. Want the score on the PDF but not in the LMS grade at all? Use Separate mode instead. Want a score on neither? Use Feedback only.
Rigor: how strict the AI grades
Three rigor levels: lenient, moderate (default), and strict. Each maps to a different grading prompt. If you find the moderate setting grades too kindly for your class, switch to strict; if it grades too harshly for younger students, switch to lenient. Same assignment, different rigor, different scores. After grading, the AI also generates a holistic summary that lands on the stored PDF.
Premium feature
AI grading is part of the paid teacher membership. The rest of the platform (multiple choice, LMS passback, adaptive levels) stays free. Membership pricing lives on the Join page.
